By disseminating the flyer with the message: “Artist, I’m buying an apartment in this block!” (2025), Andrei Timofte recontextualized a performative gesture from 2019, transforming it into an art object with documentary value. Distributed to the public, the flyer circulates as a fragment of recovered history, constituting itself as a gesture of sharing the symbolic capital of the artwork. The archive-installation with the same title transposes into an objectual form of a sculpture-monument type an act of remembrance, re-signification and critical reflection, in which the archive transforms from a space of conservation into a place of confrontation with the present. Photos from the slideshow: Documentary. “The Calcium Wall of a Petty Bourgeoisie” (2019–2025) becomes an archive of desire speculated by the real estate industry, while disguising the economic mechanisms of social inequalities, while the installation “Dialogue (Fictitious) with a Bank (2025)” amplifies the tension between the illusion of negotiation and the reality of powerlessness. Work in the contemporary art and education industries is often conditioned by the provision of a decent living and a living space adequate to our basic needs. Originally conceived as a playful exercise in creative writing within the previous research, the experiment of negotiating with a bank does not even hypothetically assume the existence of balanced democratic forces of negotiation. However, the plan of the personal apartment presented in the triptych highlights the current and future efforts transformed and devalued into commodities, now and in the very long term.
