We disobey Freedom of the Market Place
The video essay is the result of the participation at the Artist in Residency program, supported by tranzit.org and the ERSTE Foundation at the Museums Quartier in Vienna. The artistic research realized in collaboration with the transnational writer Ovid Pop, focuses on the relationship between desire and coercion and on the relationship between the global market and its local forms.
The film is structured in three chapters:
1. Know Thyself talks about the market as a place of work, and also describes the relationship between the market and the formation of identity.
2. Knots, gold, honey and wind, analyzes the market as an infrastructure of the global economy, of capital exchanges, starting from the identification of the technologies that are the organizational basis of these spaces. The social space of the market implies a permanent investment of labor and a systematized hierarchy that dismantles the myth of self-regulation.
3. Mycology 360 moves the market analysis process to non-humanity. The chapter tells the fictional story of the identification of a new species of fungus, the Amber Vein species. Mycological multiplication and reproduction are the processes associated with the means of functioning of global economic fields. Like mushrooms, markets cause processes of regeneration and decomposition.
